Lifelong Learning

There's been lots of learning going on in our house lately.  As always, Nick is busy learning all sorts of good screenwriting stuff in grad school.  In fact, Nick was able to impart some of his vast knowledge about character development to Becky, which she used in her most recent Relief Society lesson that she taught at church on improving our personal character (clever, huh?).  Nick is also helping Olivia learn to be a more ticklish baby, which is coming along nicely!

For the past month Becky has been preparing for a Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) course.  After studying lots and taking quizzes online, she completed the hands-on portion yesterday and is now officially an NRP provider!  Now that Nick is almost done with classes for the semester, Becky is starting the hunt for a nursing job again-- hopefully she'll come across the perfect one soon!

Olivia has been working on mastering her extremities, particularly her arms and hands.  She is learning to grab and reach for objects.  She loves to knock towers of blocks over...now if only she would learn to build them again after knocking them down.  Until then, we will continue helping her out!

"Oh hey there!"

Sometimes she's gotta take a break after all that hard work!
Monday was our 2-year wedding anniversary!!  To celebrate, we spent a quiet evening at home with Olivia...how romantic.  But really, it was a nice day.  These 2 years together have been so wonderful, we are excited for many more to come :)

Nick bought Becky anniversary flowers-- what a  sweetheart!
And Becky made anniversary cookies!

Arizona Adventures

Once upon a time, Becky's mom formed a wonderful plan-- have all of my daughters and grandchildren come visit for a week!  So, Becky and Olivia flew to Arizona last Saturday for an exciting week, full of swimming and playing at the park and enjoying the nice warm Arizona weather.  The best part of all: Olivia finally got to meet her Aunt Abby, Aunt Kathryn, and her cousins!

Lindy-- 2 1/2 years old
Kyla-- 6 months old
Logan-- 3 months old
All the cousins, enjoying some television
Unfortunately, the trip was plagued with a 24-hour flu that we kept passing around to each other, so at least one person was sick pretty much the whole time (no pictures will be shown from this portion of the trip).  But, we all helped nurse each other back to health and still managed to have a lovely time together.  Now here's some random picture of our adorable kids :)

Olivia and Logan in matching cousin stripes!
Lindy in her beloved dog jammies
Going on a shopping outing with all three babies!  I was afraid a cop would pull us over and say we had too many babies in the car...
Olivia and Kyla-- they became really close friends, as you can see since they are holding hands!

And here's a quick glimpse of what it's like to try and take a picture of all the kids together!

Olivia and the Tongue

Did you know that the longest tongue on record is 3.86 inches from the tip to the back?

Women have shorter tongues than men.  The longest female tongue was only 2.76 inches long.

Thomas Blackstone can boast he has the strongest tongue-- he lifted a 24 lb 3 oz weight that he lifted with a hook in his tongue.

A blue whale tongue is the size of an elephant and weighs 5400 lbs!

The saying "cat got your tongue"comes from ancient Assyria, because conquered soldiers and criminals had their tongues cut out and fed to cats.

Guiness World Records says that the hardest tongue twister in the English language is "The sixth sick sheikh's sixth sheep's sick."

And in case you were wondering, because it comes in a variety of shapes and can have different number of taste buds, the human tongue imprint is as unique as a fingerprint.

Thanks to this infographic for the cool tongue facts, and a big thank you to Miss Olivia for being such a great tongue model!
